Camper Air Conditioner Ideas to save money while cooling you & your family in your camper using a Portable Camper Air Conditioner or the MightyKool MW1 Evaporative Cooler.

The occupants of this Motorhome used a MightyKool MW1 to cool their bedroom without running the Generator or Air Conditioner. (However now they upgraded to the WIN for 2012)

The occupants of this Popup Camper keep cool with the MW1 or the WIN while sleeping using the Flex Hose Kit and in the galley with energy from their "Power Station" Battery with the built in charger .

The MW1 (left) or WIN (right) are the most popular for Camping especially in the dry climates of the World

Customer comments using Swampys in Campers (others under Testimonials):

"Dear Swampy, We just wanted to drop you a line to tell you how well our Mightykool (MW1) worked for us in our trailer on the Playa at Black Rock City. We run off of solar so this was a great way to cool off and be able to nap during the 90 degree days. Thanks," C. and C. Jackson, WY

"I bought your MW1 MightyKool system on July 5. It has definitely improved my camping experiences every weekend this summer." R.O. Newington, CT.

"We used the MW1 in the motorhome this weekend, and found you can set this thing up on the small dash, even though it looks like it would fall off. I took a good stretch chord, hooked it to the defroster vents, and it stayed there nice and tight. I set the defroster to run on vented outside air with no heat, so to get it into the Mightykool fan, and it did a pretty good job of keeping us kool. When we camped at night with our electrical hookup, we used a converter with the Mightykool , and stayed nice and comfortable. Love my toys." C. P. Portland, OR

"You guys could have very well saved my life this summer. the (IM30) ice myster did a great job on the forth and has really let me keep my cool on a couple of other jobs. i'll really put it to the test next week at a vietnam vet reunion where the temp. is going to 100+. I use it with my battery pack and a space age material colaspeable cooler. The little guy is quite an ice eater but i'm working on making some large blocks of ice and am sure that will help. thanks for all your help!!!!!" W. N. Attica, KS.

"I have it (M400 MightyKool) jerry rigged right now to a marine battery and jumper cables... and it works great... I'm very happy with it. Great looking, working, and sounding product... much better than the $200 sharper image toaster (cooling devise) that sounded like a dying gerbil in a blender and put out as much cold air as a cold soft drink. It (M300) really works, blue ice works great. It's 110 outside in the shade and feels like 50-60 (wind chill factor added) - 18 inches from the vents - that's better than my auto AC! I've been running it a few hours.... and even the ice I've thrown in has melted.. the water is still about 60 degrees and the cold air is just great... It doesn't need to be 30 degrees to be heaven!" G. V. Portola Valley, CA

"I just love this cooler (MW1), amazing how much it delivers. Even when i posted it in the tiny trailers and teardrop forum they told me to leave it home but I took it anyways to McGrath State beach near Ventura, Ca. One night my wife turned on my small fan and still felt warm so we plugged in the cooler and instant cooling, couldn't have been a more perfect size for a teardrop trailer." E. M. Phoenix, AZ.

Thanks for the prompt delivery of the MW1 MightyKool cooling system. I was bit hesitant at first but after running it for the last two weeks in 30 + C. degrees, have found it very good. I have been filling the cooler with cold water from my fridge and found sleeping quite comfortable. Compared to the cost of other evaporative coolers these systems are way in front. thanks again, regards, D. & K. F. Goombungee, Queensland, Australia

One of the differences between an Camper Air Conditioner and an Evaporative Cooler are the methods used to produce cool air. An Evaporative Cooler has cool air that feels like an ocean breeze. A Camper Air Conditioner has dry cool air like you feel in an aircraft cabin. People in dry climates generally prefer the feel of an Evaporative Cooler and those in humid areas generally choose a Camper Air Conditioner.

A Portable Camper Air Conditioner or Evaporative Cooler are preferred if installing an after market Camper Air Conditioner is not economically feasible. Also if repairing a factory installed Camper Air Conditioner is not possible, then consideration should be made towards an Alternative. A Portable Cooler can be moved from a boat to a vehicle and will provide relief while providing less strain on the engine and, of course, money.

The following question was taken from our FAQ Section

1. How Large an Area will an Portable Device cool?

Seems like a logical question, however Portable Cooling Systems are typically designed for Spot Cooling, not area cooling. We do not know if the area to be cooled is well insulated or if it is cool to begin with or if there is enough power and other resources to maintain a full power-on situation. It does not matter if you are using a Portable Cooling System in an auditorium or a phone booth. Size does not make any difference because you will place the Portable device where you need it! That is the advantage of Portable Systems.

We always recommend you install properly sized refrigerated central systems if you are not limited to either energy or financial resources. However if you are limited to either or both resources, then consider Portable Spot Cooling! These systems work well unless you need to cool the pictures on the walls or all the people in a vehicle; in which case you must install a properly sized permanently mounted central system.

The bottom line: If there is no limit on resources install a properly sized built-in cooling device. If, on the other hand, there are limited resources of energy and/or finances utilize a Portable Cooling System to provide that needed relief from the heat! Our Portable Coolers are strong enough to blow the papers off your desk, yet much quieter than TV commercials! More Answers on this subject.

Specifications

What are the Dimensions, Amperage Draw and Water Capacity?

One gallon (3.75 liters) of water will last around two to three hours in the daytime and four to five hours during the night when used for evaporative cooling in dry desert climates. The "Ice Water" models typically use from 10 pounds (4.5 kilograms) to 20 pounds (9.0 kilograms) of ice Per Hour, depending on the ambient temperature and day or night operation.

A 105 Deep Cycle battery, "not being charged", allow the MW1, WIN & MW2 to operate for 50 to 80 hours and the "Ice Water" models like the MK3, MK4, MAC & M400 will operate for 25 to 35 hours before the battery needs charging. The T154, T304, S154 & AC12 Models will operate about 8 hours before the battery would need charging, as they use more energy.

Evaporative Cooler Models MW1/MW2 use Water only and the WIN uses both Ice and Water. The AC 12 uses Ice & will not cool with Water. The M400, MK3, MK4, MAC, & MG4 Provide; Dual Air Conditioning using Ice or Water
All Dual Systems automatically dispose of the excess condensation collected
